10 disadvantages of Crash Diets

Hello Healthizens!

We all have heard a lot about crash diets.
Let me tell you a few disadvantages of Crash Diets

1) Irrtability - Psychologicaly you feel deprieved, and since food gives us solace, you feel all the more irritable.

2) Low Metabolism - Lesser calories burning.

3) Muscle loss - lesser muscle tone - Loosening of body flesh.

4) Your Body's Calorie balancing and  burning gets negatively affected so all that you eat gets converted to FAT.

5) Insulin response and functioning gets affected negatively.

6) Frequent Hunger Pangs - Lesser feeling of satisfaction.

7) Lesser Stamina - Lesser strength to workout or even move e.g.: Walk, Get up, Take Bath etc.

8) Hair fall - Loss of essential nutrients especially fat leads to hair fall.

9)Constipation/Indigestion/Irritable Bowel - Your body needs all the nutrients in appropriate amounts to facilitate the prcoes of Digestion. If a proper combination is not received the digestion doesn't happen!

10) Once you start normal diet the lost weight comes back with  A BANG!

These are just the few of the long list of disadvantages and
yes apart form this the numbness that you feel once you start with your normal food is just the beginning...of feeling bad from within And yes you might have t start on several medications fr certain types of pains that happen because of Crash Dieting!

Too much of Fatigue - Are you defecient in Vitamin B12?

Hello Healthizens!

Did you know - The defeciency of Vitamin B 12 is also known as Folate defeciency Anaemia
Let's discuss something about it...

The causes of vitain B12 defeciency are -

1) Vegan Diet.
2)Bowel related problems like Gastric trouble, Indigestion,
    Diarrhoea, Acidity etc
3) Pernicious anaemia.
4) Chronic alcoholism.
5) Surgery of any portion of Gastrointestinal tract.
6) Long term use of Acidity curbing drugs usually known as antacids.

The symtoms we need to be aware of!

1) Excess of Weakness/Fatigue/Tiredness
2) Restlessness
3) Rapid heart rate which increases all the more on performing any physical activity
4) Bleeding gums
5) Sore throat
6) Mouth ulcers
7) Numbness in extremities
8) Pale skin colour
9) Diarrhoea / Constipation
10) Rapid breathing
11) Hair loss.
12) Dryness of skin
13) Low immunity levels.

The symptoms can happen individually or in combination..
If only 1 symptom is getting magnified in your case.. refer a Doctor immediately!

Why should you worry if you are Viamin B 12 defecient???

Because Vitamin B12 is the energy related vitamin.
It deals with
1) Energy production -  Defeciency - Low on energy and lesser absorption of other nutrients, diarrhoea, constipation etc.

2) Synthesis of our very valuable DNA -  Defeciency - Less efficient function of all systems.

3) Myelin sheath formation (basically better health of nerves and their endings) - Defeciency - Numbness of extremities, Fatigue, less responsiveness etc.

which means it deals with all the most necessary functions in our body... and so

we can't afford to be defecient in it!

How do I know if I am defecient in Vitamin B 12?

Consult your family Doctor & get a blood test done. On getting the report consult both the Doctor and the Dietician.

Its been a decade of helping people understand and learn better about their Diet, their Food
                 Why and
                               How much to eat?
14th of May
It was this day 10 years back that I started off as a trainee dietician at Leelavati Hospital under RKHS (now taken over by Sodexo).
Like a Fresher..Initially I too was a bit confused abut the concepts.. because at times practical experiences teach you a lot more than what you learn in your theories.
The experience of working with a different types of people of different fields
viz: Multispeciality hospital, Cardiac Hospital, Aviation academies, School, College, FOGSI, General Physician, Gastroenterologist, Interventionist, Playschools, Corporate, Gym, NGO, Online counselling to friends and relatives and now to clients too.. and Private practice.. The journey has been interesting and enriching.

I might have forgot to collect a few certificates and testimonials here and there and conducted workshops on an honorary basis at times..but what I received in return -
is a fabulous experience of working in cities like Mumbai, Surat, Raipur and Bhopal.

Looking forward to much more decades of decoding the Nutrition Science!!
