5 Ways To Improve Your Diet Routine - Part 2 of 5

Hello Healthizens!
Hope you are already following the tips given in the previous post: Include variety of Vegetables in your Diet

The other points in this series are:
1) Include variety of vegetables in your diet
2) Prefer to have your bowl of Soup, Salad, Curd /Buttermilk before Meals.
3) Munching is good, but only when you munch the right things.
4) Eat a lot of In Season things( fruits and vegetables).
5) All of this should be a component of your meals during the entire day:
Chapati/  Roti, 1 Big Katori (Seasonal)Vegetable, Dal, Rice, Salad(all seasonal raw veggies, this includes Sprouts too!), Curd/Buttermilk and last but not the least - Fruits

Lets discuss the 2nd point

Prefer to have your bowl of Soup, Salad, Curd /Buttermilk before Meals.

A very general tendency when we eat is - to eat Disproportionately if the meal  tastes good or if our hunger pangs are strong and forget the Salad and Curd/Buttermilk part.

If salads and curd are had before the meal it fills up your stomach with Good Fibres and Healthy Protein respectively, and thus ensuring atleast some good nutrients.

The 2nd benefit is since major portion of the stomach is occupied by these healthy things, the quantity of overall food consumed becomes less.

Salad: Any 1 or a combination of veggies makes a great Salad
Tomato/ Cucumber/ Onion/ Capsicum/ Cabbage/ Green onion/ Green Garlic/ Garlic / Radish/ Half boiled Beetroot/ Steamed or Semi-cooked Sprouts/ Coriander leaves

e.g.: Spinach Salad: Fresh Spinach Fine Cut + lemon juice+ Black pepper, Olive oil/ Mustard oil+ Salt makes a wonderful salad in Winters!

You can try such combinations on your own.
Go ahead Have a tasty salad for yourself!

We shall discuss the next point in the upcoming posts

3) Munching is good, but only when you munch the right things.
Do post in your queries If Any.

4) Take a break while eating rather than eating at one go.
5) Concentrate on your food when you eat.

Okay! that was a quick reminder...Now lets start with ways to improve your routine.
First the Main Points

Lets discuss the 1st point

Include variety of vegetables in your diet.

Monotony  is boring right? I wonder how people don't get bored of eating the same few number of vegetables just because they Do not Like others!
You being an individual do not prefer to wear the same clothes e.g.: T-shirt almost every alternate day {there may be exceptions to this...} Right?
Well the same way your body also needs a variety of nutrients from different vegetables.

By Variety I mean lots of colours and textures ( I am listing a few of them)
e.g.: Green Leafy vegetables like: Spinach (Palak), Fenugreek (Methi) , Bathua, Amaranth (Chauli), Radish greens (Muli bhaji) , Lal bhaji , Colocasia leaves (Arbi ke patte), Turnip greens (Shaljam ke patte) etc.

Other vegetables like: Bottle gourd (Lauki) , Ridge gourd (Turia/Gilki) , Parwal, Pumpkin (Kadoo), Bitter gourd (Karela), Radish (Muli), Carrot (Gajar), Green peas (Matar), Cauliflower (Phool gobhi), Cabbage (Pattagobhi), Turnip (Shaljam), Beet-root (Chukandar), Cluster beans (Guvar falli),  Colocasia (Arbi), Long yard beans (Barbatti), Jackfruit (Kathal), Yam (Suran), Kohl Rabi (Ganth gobhi) etc

Herez one Mantra my mum gave me: Your Tastebuds are the enemy of your health, If you want a good health, Stop being the Slave of your tastebuds.

By saying this what I want to emphasise is - Above all things give your Health the TOP priority and your tastebuds the 2nd.

Try to follow this tip for 1 week. then we shall discuss on the 2nd point.

5 Healthy Eating Tips That Work

Okay, So this is my first Blog as a Diet and Nutrition Consultant and I am elated!

Earlier when I used to consult people for weight loss..It was a Professional approach for me just like any other Consultant
Post-Pregnancy when I am going through the constant thought process in my mind..."Loose Weight"
I realized that that I can try a combination of all of those advices, tips and tricks  that I used to give people to reduce weight.

I feel Healthy Eating is more important than Dieting. Of course many of you would support me on that right?
So let us start with Healthy Eating Tips and Tricks. And once you are wired for healthy eating, You Yourselves will decide how to Diet in a Healthy way.

Without taking much time.. Let us start

1) Get up early

Most of you would be wondering as to how getting up early  is related to Diet and Nutrition. But my idea is if you get up early you have ample time to organise the whole day @ peace in your own manner rather than rushing up things. Plus your bowel movements are more regular if you are in a habit of getting up early. Again a plus point because no constipation is a sign of Healthy body.
I get up early and do a certain things to cleanse my system. And if that routine is done perfectly I feel my body gets geared up very well for the entire day!

2) Have a Heavy Breakfast

Okay I know you've heard it umpteen times, but YES you should have a heavy breakfast.

The filling the breakfast is (i.e.: loaded with fibres: Oats are good for that!) , the more energetic you shall be in the most important working hours ie: the morning hours of the day. Isn't that we all wish for!

I've heard many of my clients say that they feel very bloated if they have Breakfast (forget heavy breakfast..just breakfast) in the morning. Please get out of this misconception, as It is easy to burn early morning calories than late night calories.

(In case if you want to get into the chemical part of it you can mail me)

Plus even if you feel a little Full, Be happy with the fact that you will NOT feel hungry just by the time you start your work in the office. You can relax and do your work for atleast 4-5 hours without feeling hunger cramps, I am sure that would add to your Productivity.

3) Drink lots and lots of water - HOT and not cold water.

Hot water stimulates the secretion of digestive juices and thereby helps make digestion efficient. Hot water also helps clean mucous accumulations and particles of undigested food, thus enables body to function satisfactorily.

2 Simple tips
a) Keep a bottle handy - I keep a Thermos flask handy and that helps me fulfill my water requirement even if I become a bit lazy to go and get warm water from the kitchen.
b) Drink atleast 1 glass of HOT water before meals.

4) Take a break while eating, rather than eating at one go.

Most of us finish our meal in almost 10-15 minutes. It takes at least 20 minutes after eating to tell your brain that IT IS FULL. So the Mantra is take breaks, if taking a break is not possible take another bite only when your mouth is empty.

5) Concentrate on your food when you eat.

Many of us are in a habit of watching TV or talking on Phone, reading, listening to some music or constantly chatting with people (friends or family).
Doing miscellaneous things along with doing the most important thing for your body i.e.: EATING
is injustice to your own self.
Moreover it diverts your attention and thereby you tend to either Eat More Or Eat Less, both of which are not good for you.
Meal times should be specifically be Meal times.
Eat your food with full joy, happiness and concentration. It would yield you more benefits!

We shall meet again with another post ' 5 ways to improve your Diet routine'

Hasta Pronto (See you soon)
